More than networking: from first event nerves to ten new bookings

Supporting Dartford's bid for Town of Culture

March 23rd 2026

At The Nucleus, we often talk about community. But what does that actually mean in practice?

Recently, Centre Manager Kim attended a Dartford Living networking event, not just as a representative of The Nucleus, but alongside one of our customers, Zoe, who was attending her very first networking event.

Like many people walking into a room full of unfamiliar faces, Zoe was understandably nervous. It’s a feeling most business owners recognise, especially in the early stages of building confidence, connections and visibility.

But this is exactly where community matters.

With support and encouragement, Zoe stepped into the room, started conversations, and began building relationships.

The result? Ten new bookings following that single event!

That’s the difference between working in isolation and being part of a connected business community.

Why this matters for your business

Stories like Zoe’s aren’t unusual but they are powerful.

At The Nucleus, we don’t just provide workspace. We create an environment where businesses can:

  • Build confidence in how they show up professionally,
  • Access opportunities they might not find on their own,
  • Connect with people who open doors.

For many businesses, growth doesn’t start with a strategy document. It starts with a conversation.

Dartford’s bigger story: a town building momentum

That same sense of connection is at the heart of Dartford’s bid to become the UK’s first Town of Culture 2028.

UK Town of Culture 2028 is a national initiative designed to recognise towns with strong cultural identity, community engagement and ambition for the future. It brings investment, raises profile and creates long-term opportunities for local people and businesses

Even the process of bidding has value – bringing together businesses, creatives and communities to shape a shared vision and strengthen partnerships.

For Dartford, this isn’t about a title. It’s about telling a bigger story about the town and unlocking new opportunities.

Culture is already on our doorstep

Dartford’s cultural identity isn’t something new – it’s already here.

At The Nucleus, we’re part of The Bridge, a unique development where culture, business and community sit side by side. Step outside and you’ll find public art woven into the landscape, including:

  • The striking mermaid sculpture, a nod to Dartford’s riverside heritage.
  • A First World War soldier sculpture, reflecting the town’s history and identity.
  • A series of contemporary public artworks across The Bridge, designed to create a sense of place and encourage people to stop, connect and engage.

These aren’t hidden away. They’re part of the everyday experience for the businesses based here and the people who visit.

So what does this mean for you?

Whether it’s attending your first networking event or growing your business in a new location, the principle is the same: Opportunity grows in the right environment.

At The Nucleus, that means:

  • A professional space to meet clients and build credibility
  • A supportive community that helps you take the next step
  • Access to events, networks and conversations that drive real results

Because sometimes, all it takes is one room, one introduction, or one moment of confidence to change what comes next.

Be part of the story

Dartford’s Town of Culture bid is built on a simple idea: everyone has a story to tell.

If you’re part of the business community here – whether you’re based at The Nucleus or beyond – you’re already part of that story.

And if you’re looking for a place where those stories turn into opportunities, we’d love to show you around.

From first enquiry to feeling settled at The Nucleus

Choosing a new workspace is rarely just practical. It is a business decision. A financial decision. Often, it is also a confidence decision. Many founders and operations leads delay moving because they feel unsure about the process. Will it disrupt the team? Will it take too much time? Will it […]
