BOOK A TOUR

One community. One challenge.

Countless miles for Sharon.

June 1st 2026

On 3rd June, businesses across The Nucleus will come together to do something simple, powerful and deeply personal.

They will walk, run and clock up marathon miles in memory of Sharon Wignall while raising money for Cancer Research UK.

This is not about who’s fastest. It’s not about running a full marathon alone. It is about a community coming together for somebody who meant a huge amount to so many people at The Nucleus.

Remembering Sharon

Sharon, owner of family-run business Highgrove Cleaning & Support Ltd, was part of The Nucleus community for around 12 years.

Sharon regularly supported events, charity days and the wider business community around her.

Even after moving to a virtual office package, Highgrove remain closely connected to the centre and its people.

Sharon is remembered not only for her strength during a long and courageous battle with cancer, but for her warmth, positivity, beautiful smile and unmistakable spirit.

For many people at The Nucleus, Sharon was far more than a customer.

She was part of the fabric of the community.

That is why, on what would have been her birthday, businesses across the centre are coming together to honour her memory in a way that reflects exactly who she was: supportive, positive and community-minded.

How the challenge works

Team Nucleus will complete the equivalent of a full marathon together: 26.2 miles using treadmills in reception and walking outdoors.

At the same time, Sharon’s family - who will be away on holiday - will also be completing the same distance in her memory.

But the challenge doesn't stop there.

The Nucleus is inviting customers, businesses and the wider community to help answer one big question:

How many marathons can we complete together in one day?

Want to take part? Here’s how

Join the mass community walk

At 1pm on 3rd June, customers can join a group walk with the Nucleus team around the lake at The Bridge estate alongside other businesses from The Nucleus community.

A full lap of the lake is approximately 1.1 miles, meaning every walk contributes towards the collective marathon total.

If you would like to take part in the organised walk, contact Kim at The Nucleus to get involved.

Can’t make the main walk? Your miles still count

Not everyone can step away at the same time and that is absolutely fine.

Businesses and individuals can still take part by:

  • Logging their own walk or run throughout the day,
  • Completing miles before or after work,
  • Taking part individually or as a team.

Simply let Kim know how many miles you complete so they can be added to the centre-wide marathon total.

Whether it is one lap of the lake, a lunchtime walk, a treadmill session or a full run, every mile matters!

Help us raise as much as possible for Cancer Research UK

The challenge is also about raising vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

The Nucleus team are encouraging businesses to support the fundraiser by:

  • Donating directly,
  • Sponsoring colleagues taking part,
  • Sharing the JustGiving page with friends, family and customers,
  • Posting their own miles and fundraising efforts on social media.

If every business connected to The Nucleus shares the fundraiser with just a few people, the impact could be huge.

More than a fundraiser

At The Nucleus, the community has never been about forced networking or surface-level connections.

It is about people supporting one another through the highs, the challenges and the moments that matter most.

This challenge reflects exactly that spirit.

Because on 3 June, every mile walked, every donation made and every message shared will help honour Sharon’s memory and demonstrate the power of a business community coming together with purpose.

And perhaps that is the most important thing of all.

Time to try networking that doesn’t feel like networking?

At The Nucleus, community isn’t built through forced introductions or awkward 60-second pitches. More often, it starts with something much simpler: a slice of pizza, a drink, and a conversation that happens naturally. That’s exactly what our regular beer and pizza event are all about. They are deliberately informal. There’s no […]

When the working day ends, The Nucleus doesn’t

There’s a moment, usually just after the laptops close and the emails stop, when a workspace either empties… or evolves. At The Nucleus, it’s the latter. Recently, one of our customers, Jas from Massage Holistic Therapy, transformed one of our meeting rooms into something entirely different: a calm, immersive space […]

The email that became a real business opportunity

What does it take to turn a business idea into something real? For a group of students from The Leigh UTC, it started with a simple question: Can we sell our products at The Nucleus Christmas Fair? The answer was yes! A first step into real business In November 2025, […]
