Bridging the link between school and science

May 22nd 2018

Local school children saw the future in action when they visited the Nucleus Business and Innovation Centre recently.

Pupils from Dartford Bridge community primary school visited The HUG Group’s office to watch a demonstration of the company’s 3D printer and to listen to a talk about how the printer works.

The children learnt that 3D printers use coloured plastic that’s heated up and pushed through a nozzle.

This allows them to build up objects, layer by tiny layer, until they are complete. The children also watched their very own ‘iLeader’ name tags take shape: firstly using Computer Aided Design software to design the object and then brought to life
by the 3D printer.

Claire Lockyer, Managing Director of The Hug Group, led the session and was impressed by the children’s enthusiasm: “Watching their names tags being created on the 3D printer really brought the design process to life for the children and they were very eager to ask questions and embrace the technology involved.

“As a company that promotes technology as a way of keeping children safe, The Hug Group is committed to working with local schools and, as a start-up business, our location on The Bridge has been invaluable in connecting us with the local community.”
